OUR PUPPY GUIDE
Transitioning Homes
This can be a very exciting and scary for both hooman’s and puppy. When arriving home some 'hello' cuddles are a great start, give your new puppy the opportunity to explore their new home uninterrupted.
Remember that while your puppy needs lots of love, it is also very important for them to rest and not be over handled.
Introducing other family pets needs to be done cautiously with lots of supervision.
Puppy Quarters
There is no real right or wrong answer. This is a area for you to navigate and work with your new puppy and what is comfortable for your puppy. Some may feel more comfortable in a crate next to your bed, while others prefer to sleep on a blanket in the living room.
Here’s a few tips:
Puppy Food
A nutritionally complete (scientifically formulated) dog food is highly recommended. The puppy stage is the most important part of their life for growth and development. Our puppies are given leaps and bounds puppy kibble, wet food Pedigree Puppy Pal, leaps and bounds raw patties, puppy milk, lactose free yoghurt and leaps and bounds roll. Making sure you leave dry food and plenty of water available to your puppy all day long.
Council Registration
Your local council may require your pet to be registered. It can be quite costly if you puppy ends up in the pound and they aren’t registered.
Vaccinations
Puppy vaccination schedule is at 6 weeks Parvo and Microchipped, 10 weeks Parvo Booster & Kennel Cough (Optional Vaccinations are Proheart & Lepto), 14 weeks as final Parvo booster,
Your Puppy's vaccinations will be outlined in their Vaccination Passport.
After all booster vaccination, your puppy vaccination schedule is complete they will only require annual vaccination thereafter.
Socialisation
You will have to keep the puppy all to yourself (i.e. no dog parks or puppy playdates or daycare) until your puppy is fully protected against parvo. This is usually 2 weeks after their 2nd parvo vaccination (~14 weeks of age) but discuss this with your Vet first.
Worming, Fleas & Other infections
Once your puppy over 12 weeks we recommend using Nexgard chewable tablets a monthly a monthly preventative for tape worm, fleas, ticks, and mites. If you have decided for your puppy to not have the Proheart annually vaccination. You can then use Nexgard Spectra as a monthly preventative for intestinal worms, flea’s, ticks, mites and heart worm.
Desexing
Around 90% of Merle Cavoodle puppies are desexed. The RSPCA advocates for all breeders to participate in the Early Aged Desexing. The Early age desexing means our puppies don’t go to their new homes until 11 weeks of age for Male’s and 13 weeks of age for Female’s. Giving them extra time with their litter mates and mum and dad.
